Screenplays

Basket in the Sky

This script was inspired by a prose poem that I wrote for my Poetry Workshop course that I took during my Junior Year at TCNJ. While the source material didn’t include any specific characters, it did offer some plot points and environment descriptions that I could utilize in this short script.

The script follows a group of friends as they explore the summer carnival. The main character Tyler has feelings for his longtime friend Alexa, but doesn’t have the confidence to share his feelings with her. Since the group of friends are heading off to college in the Fall, Tyler knows that his time is running out to confess his feelings before everyone goes their separate ways. As the story progresses, he eventually builds up the confidence to share his feelings with Alexa to which she reciprocates.

For my first screenplay, I feel that I learned a lot about the process and proper formatting when writing. When writing a screenplay, there is a lot of description of both the environment and the actions that the characters take. The lessons learned in this screenplay I would later apply to the second screenplay I wrote.

Evozoo

For my second screenplay, I came up with an entirely new idea that was not inspired by any previous project or writing piece that I had written before.

The script follows a young woman named Alice who gets a job working at a brand new zoo that is opening. After spending the day tending to the animals with another employee, she discovers a dark secret about the zoo that gets her in trouble and starts a chain of events that she never thought could happen.

While this screenplay is longer than the first one that I wrote, I feel that I was able to write a much more action-focused story with interesting twists. It was also interesting adding in horror elements to a script since the previous one I wrote had more slice of life and romance elements. With this second screenplay, I was able to gain more experience writing in this style, as well as in a different genre.
