This project is a game that I made in Unity for my Games 1 course during my Junior Year at The College of New Jersey. In the game, the player explores one of three randomly selected levels where they have to solve puzzles in order to find a treasure. While exploring these levels, the player must also avoid roaming enemies.

Project Description
Previously, I had created a very simplistic third-person exploration game for my Games 1 course. This game had the player explore a small level searching for hidden items. After collecting all but one of them, the player unlocked the area to acquire the last item and win the game. After learning about how to set up a third-person character, I decided for my next project for the class to be an expanded version of this previous game, but theme it more like a treasure hunter exploring a tomb.
In order to create the playable character and enemies, I discovered two applications, Fuse and Mixamo, where I could make and animate characters. For the playable character, who I ended up naming Malcolm Sterling, I was inspired by Indiana Jones and Nathan Drake from the Uncharted games. I gave Malcolm a brown jacket with a black shirt, grey pants, and brown hiking boots. For the enemies, I imagined them as cursed village people who were turned into mindless zombies. For the male and female variants, I gave them clothes that were textured to look like they were made from simple cloth.
When originally designing the mechanics of the game, I wanted each level to be randomly generated using a bunch of different hallways, rooms, and puzzles. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get that system to work, so I instead decided to just make three different levels and have the game randomly select one level when the play starts the game. With the overall level appearance, I wanted it to have a desert aesthetic that included sandy floors, pillars, and sandy block walls. For the treasure, I thought it would be a funny idea to tie it back to the branding I had made previously for myself and made the treasure a golden boot. I also incorporated a song that would loop while playing the game that helped set the overall mood. I found the song through Youtube’s Studio Audio Library. Overall, for my first attempt at making a dungeon crawler game, I think it came out great.
